Department of Mathematics was established in 1992 and had the first graduates of BSc degree in 1996. Every year nearly 40 undergraduate students are accepted to the program with the SSRE (Student Selection and Replacement Examination). The department gives a 4-year education program to its undergraduates. The program consists of modern mathematics. The students are not educated only on several branches of mathematics, but also gain some insights about logic and computing. One of the main objectives of the department is to graduate students who are competent in their field of study, self-confident, engaged in critical thinking and able to express themselves.

In 1998, a graduate program opened in the department for the students who want to be educated in further areas of mathematics. So far, a few tens of students have been taken the MSc degree in mathematics. This program continues successfully.

In the Department of Mathematics, the academic research is mainly conducted in applied mathematics. But other branches such as analysis, geometry, topology, and pure and applied statistics are also research interests.

Finally, the approach of the academic staff in the Department to the students are friendly and encouraging.
